The 2021 Chteau Batailley is a wine that promises great things as it matures. Comprising 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this vintage offers an aromatic profile of cassis, plums, licorice, and dark chocolate. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a supple, layered structure and ripe, powdery tannins that lend a refined mouthfeel. The wine shows a classic Pauillac elegance, marked by juicy, energetic flavors, and will improve with age.

What a pretty nose. Perfumes of light cedar, sandalwood, chocolate and blackcurrants follow through to a medium body with fine and polished tannins that have length and beauty. Classy for the vintage. Drinkable now but better in two or three years.

The 2021 Batailley shows promise, exhibiting aromas of cassis, plums, licorice, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and dark chocolate, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and charming palate built around ripe, powdery tannins. Supple and giving, it will offer a broad drinking window.

Perfumed, floral, heady nose. Lightly framed in terms of texture, but with a really intense and concentrated core of sweet red and black fruit flavours, with cocoa powder and liquorice that go vertical as well as horizontal, filling the palate with aromas as opposed to direct weight from the tannins. Feels like a delicate and pared-back style for this estate, carefully presenting the vintage in the glass with harmony and balance. Juicy and flavourful, it will be even better after ageing. Tasted twice. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

Tasted blind. Looks relatively evolved. Hint of charcoal on the nose. Sweet and juicy and a little simple, but easy to like in the relatively short term. Not fighting the vintage and held up well in the glass. Energetic.

Pauillac wines have a deep colour.
These wines are potent and robust, particularly during blending, where the power of sauvignon prevails.

The tannin structure resulting from this process gives these wines incredible ageing capacity.

By adding merlot to the blend, Pauillac wines are well-rounded and fruity. After ageing, these wins become highly complex.

Our first wine, designated AOC Pauillac, and categorised as Cinquime Grand Cru Class since 1855, is a typical Pauillac wine.

This dark ruby wine smells sophisticated, rich and intense when opened, with a powerful nose of black- and red-fruit aromas. In the mouth, its robust, balanced flavour shines through, with pronounced notes of blackcurrant and spices and a long, captivating finish.

Considered an excellent wine of guard, it ages extremely well and can be kept for many years before use.

2021 TASTING
With a beautiful colour intensity, it develops a fruity and spicy expression, with a great definition. The mouth has the usual charm of Batailley, with a nice density and a tannic basis present but integrated. The late harvest of the Cabernet Sauvignon allowed to reach full maturity, giving the wine a compact and very tasty texture.
